Pet Forest Mutations and Chromatic Pets

A Pet Forest pet is a species plus a coat plus a size plus, sometimes, a serial. Players talk about mutations as outfits: Vampiric, Pirate, Candy, Steampunk, Angelic, and the live Alien set. Chromatic pets are the color variants with a star marker. Streamers call them shinies. The official description lists both systems separately, which is why this guide keeps the words apart.

Coats you will actually see

• Vampiric — dark, often the first coat people extract because shards are useful and the look is common during night or Halloween-adjacent banners.
• Pirate — hats and compass kits. Cute, mid value unless the species is already strong.
• Candy — Sugar Rush weather paints new pets. Donut snakes and candy coyotes show up in footage. Extract from a duplicate, not from your only copy.
• Steampunk — clockwork eyes, gears. Pairs well with already expensive dragons.
• Angelic — lighter coats on Elusive showpieces such as Sunday bats or gummy sharks.
• Alien — limited to the Alien Event. Treat it as timed. When the event ends, the coat becomes a collection row, not a farm plan.
• Admin / glitch — tied to admin-rarity trees. See Admin Abuse.

Huge size is not a mutation. It is a scale roll that still changes how a pet reads on the plot and sometimes how proud you are of a clone.

Chromatic, also called shiny

Chromatic pets show a star and can appear in more than one color of the same species. Community footage mentions quadrupled Chromatic chance during some world messages. That window is for color hunting, not for forcing an Elusive. Park Chromatic earners if the tier list says the species already pays. Otherwise slot them. Extractors and removers

A mutation extractor looks like a small vacuum. Point it at a pet, pull the coat, receive a shard, and leave a “bald” animal behind. A mutation remover strips without the same shard logic in some UI builds — read the tooltip in your session, because Caedyrn ships quality-of-life tweaks. Never extract the last copy of an event coat. Craft or buy another extractor through the otter loop in Crafting and Luck if you are short.

Shards (candy, pirate, vampiric) are inventory items. They are not codes. They are not scripts. Store them until you have a species worth painting.

A calm mutation workflow

1. Sort inventory to find duplicates. The controls page notes the least/most valuable toggles.
2. Screenshot the coated pet for your own index or a wiki contribution.
3. Extract only when a second copy exists or the coat is common.
4. Place the higher earner. Grind the bald leftover if the income planner says it lost the tile.
5. Tick the coat on the collection checklist so you do not farm Sugar Rush forever.

What not to do

Do not assume every shiny is an Elusive. Do not assume Alien coats will stay in the regular table after the event. Do not pay Robux for a coat you can extract from a duplicate on a quiet weekday. And do not paste a “mutation script” from another collector; Scripts Hub still has no dedicated Pet Forest tools.

Mutations are why two players can own the same fox and not have the same forest. Treat coats as a second collection sitting on top of species, and the plot stays readable.

If a coat appears only during one banner, treat it like a limited pet until it shows up on a weekday tree. Write the banner name next to the coat on your notes so you do not farm the wrong weather. That habit keeps the extractor idle until a true duplicate exists.

A last extractor rule: if you are unsure whether a second copy exists, open the index and the save slots before you vacuum. The bald pet stays, but the coat may be the only one you will see until the next Sugar Rush. That pause is cheaper than a shard you did not need.
